Before you begin any health programme at The Hydro, a trained consultant carefully assesses your body’s particular composition via InBody Analysis, using a scale that accurately measures more than forty outputs. A printed Body Composition graph of your segmental body and muscle distribution percentages, as well as your body’s mineral levels and water balance, enables you to see your body composition as a sum of Total Body Water, Protein, Minerals and Body Fat Mass. These results provide accurate indicators of health and potential diseases. The height and weight measurements also help to determine BMI (body mass index) and measure whether your muscles are adequately developed in your body. This consultation allows us to recommend a personalised health care programme, including a tailored nutrition plan.
All our programmes include our signature Hydrotherapy – a fifteen minute, ‘jacuzzi-style’ water treatment that stimulates circulation and soothes sore or stiff muscles. The treatment also assists with your body’s natural detoxification process by increasing your metabolic rate and stimulating blood circulation. This is followed by a hot/cold ‘sitz’ bath known as Kneipp Therapy, to encourage blood and lymph circulation. The session ends with a full-body, cold spray followed by a dry heat sauna or wet heat steam bath to promote elimination of impurities via your skin. Afterwards, your skin feels smooth and you are left feeling both invigorated and relaxed. Hydrotherapy is a supervised treatment that requires blood pressure monitoring from our Health Advisors.
This safe and gentle treatment uses filtered water to irrigate the colon and is recommended for guests suffering from colon issues such as colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, abdominal distension or gas pains. The process cleanses and tones the colon, helping to detoxify your body. It restores the functions of the colon, promoting optimal digestive assimilation. This, in turn, strengthens your immune system, leading to improved general health.
Ozone Therapy offers remarkable benefits to guests suffering from conditions such as high blood pressure, arthritis, eczema and allergies. Under the supervision of a trained therapist, the treatment takes place in an ozone chamber where moist heat opens your pores and dilates your capillaries. Ozone oxidises the toxins in your lymph nodes, fat and blood. These toxins leave your body via your sweat glands, thereby preventing the shock of excessive toxins dumping into your liver and colon. Ozone therapy offers a holistic approach to detoxification and rejuvenation, promoting overall well-being and vitality.
Cranio-Sacral therapy provides a gentle, alternative strategy for relief of the effects of physical injuries, psychological stresses, birth trauma and toxicity. This holistic healing practice regulates the flow of cerebrospinal fluid by using therapeutic touch to manipulate the synarthrodial joints of the cranium. A non-invasive, hands-on treatment to evaluate, and improve, the functioning of your cranio-sacral system. The practitioner applies light and gentle palpations to your skull, face, spine and pelvis, thus becoming increasingly attuned to your system and encouraging the release of stored-up traumas and emotions.
Shiatsu is an ancient technique that uses finger and palm pressure to stimulate energy pathways (known as meridians) to improve the flow of energy and promote healing. This is a therapy for those who wish to alleviate symptoms such as depression, anxiety, nausea, stiffness, headaches, arthritis, cramps or pulled muscles.
Reflexology is a gentle, holistic approach to healing and wellness. Based on the interconnectivity of the human body, this treatment concentrates on specific areas of your feet and hands that correspond to specific body parts, glands and organs. Gentle manipulation of these areas promotes healing throughout your body and the application of finger-point pressure, stretching or localised massage of pressure sensors in the feet or hands, can alleviate chronic symptoms.
This specialised treatment is for those who suffer from musculoskeletal conditions such as neck and back discomfort, headaches and muscle tension. The therapy focuses on relieving conflicts between your spine and your central nervous system that negatively affect your body function and contribute to a general decline in your state of wellbeing. The method involves gentle manipulations and subtle adjustments.
At The Hydro, we provide Counselling for guests who require a professional with whom they can discuss personal issues – someone qualified to offer assistance and guidance in understanding and resolving personal, social and psychological problems. In an atmosphere of confidentiality, we provide a safe and supportive space to deal with the challenges and problems that you are facing.

While detoxification is a common therapy for many programmes at the Hydro, we created these specific multi-day, detox programmes to completely cleanse your entire system, leaving you feeling restored, refreshed, and revitalised.
Typically, a detox programme requires a longer duration due to the physical changes that must take place in your system. Our shorter Detox Programme is designed to rid your body of toxins, boost your energy levels and enhance your organ functions by following a structured detox plan that eliminates harmful substances from your system, resets your metabolism and establishes healthier habits for long-term wellness.
If you are suffering from symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, mood swings, irritability, muscle aches and difficulty sleeping, you probably need a thorough cleanse. Our 5-night detox programme is the minimum recommended duration to cleanse and reset your system. Achieve renewed, physical and mental well-being.
The programme begins with an Inbody Analysis.
Your stay includes the following:
– 5 Night’s Accommodation
– 4 x Hydrotherapy Treatments
– 2 x 60-minute Swedish Full-Body Massages
– 1 x Manual Lymph Drainage
– 1 x Detox Wrap
– 1 x Ozone Therapy
– 1 x Inbody Analysis
* If you have time, additional therapies can be added.
While you are here:
Explore our many facilities. Enjoy our indoor heated pool, or soak up the sunshine and beautiful surroundings around the outdoor EcoPool.
Make use of our well-equipped gym and Movement Studio.
Take one of our three guided walks around the estate or meander through our indigenous and vegetable gardens.
Talks, documentaries and movement sessions are available on occassion.
Watch the spectacular sunset from under the old Redwood tree.
Included in either of our Detox packages are three delicious, daily meals to cleanse your body. All of The Hydro meals are vegetarian-focused, caffeine-free and refined sugar-free; utilising low GI carbohydrates, fresh, seasonal ingredients and incorporating all three macro-nutrients to maximise the detoxification process. We also keep you hydrated with regular fresh pressed health juices, detox soups and herbal teas.
When selecting your accommodation, consider the options available to suit your needs and preferences.
Each type of accommodation offers unique luxury features and benefits, ensuring you find the perfect option for your stay.

By immersing themselves in this hands-on experience, our guests gain a deeper understanding of the connection between the food they consume, their overall health and the well-being of the ecosystem.
Our holistic approach inspires appreciation for oneself and the planet.
From the Hydro’s beginning, we have understood that food has healing properties beyond just providing nourishment. Each bite we take could potentially be a form of medicine, supplying our bodies with essential nutrients that can benefit various bodily functions.
Packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, nutrient-rich foods have the ability to decrease inflammation, enhance the immune system and potentially lower the chances of developing chronic illnesses.
By embracing the concept of food as medicine, we nourish our bodies and improve our health, vitality and longevity.
Freshness plays a key role in maximising the nutritional benefits of whole foods. When we consume fruits and vegetables that are in season, we enjoy their peak flavour, reap optimum vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
The vibrant colours and fragrant aromas of seasonal produce are a testament to their nutrient density and medicinal value.
Eating a variety of in-season whole foods allows us to nourish our bodies with a diverse array of nutrients that support our immune systems, promote healthy digestion, and protect us against chronic diseases.
The Hydro was founded by Cleto Saporetti in 1972 on High Rustenberg farm as a Natural Healing resort based on the ‘Nature Cure’ philosophy, emphasizing self-healing in the right environment.Boris Chaitow implemented a strict regime, including controlled fasting and a mainly raw vegetarian foods diet. Guests received daily massages, hydrotherapy, and osteopathic manipulation, along with exercise and relaxation.
They left feeling lighter, energized and revitalized.
The Hydro attracted guests from South Africa and Europe, who often booked in advance to be with their friends. Returning guests felt like part of the family, showing that some things at The Hydro have never changed.
