Before you begin any health programme at The Hydro, a trained consultant carefully assesses your body’s particular composition via InBody Analysis, using a scale that accurately measures more than forty outputs. A printed Body Composition graph of your segmental body and muscle distribution percentages, as well as your body’s mineral levels and water balance, enables you to see your body composition as a sum of Total Body Water, Protein, Minerals and Body Fat Mass. These results provide accurate indicators of health and potential diseases. The height and weight measurements also help to determine BMI (body mass index) and measure whether your muscles are adequately developed in your body. This consultation allows us to recommend a personalised health care programme, including a tailored nutrition plan.

All our programmes include our signature Hydrotherapy – a fifteen minute, ‘jacuzzi-style’ water treatment that stimulates circulation and soothes sore or stiff muscles. The treatment also assists with your body’s natural detoxification process by increasing your metabolic rate and stimulating blood circulation. This is followed by a hot/cold ‘sitz’ bath known as Kneipp Therapy, to encourage blood and lymph circulation. The session ends with a full-body, cold spray followed by a dry heat sauna or wet heat steam bath to promote elimination of impurities via your skin. Afterwards, your skin feels smooth and you are left feeling both invigorated and relaxed. Hydrotherapy is a supervised treatment that requires blood pressure monitoring from our Health Advisors.

The process cleanses and tones the colon, helping to detoxify your body. It restores the functions of the colon, promoting optimal digestive assimilation. This, in turn, strengthens your immune system, leading to improved general health.

Ozone Therapy offers remarkable benefits to guests suffering from conditions such as high blood pressure, arthritis, eczema and allergies. Under the supervision of a trained therapist, the treatment takes place in an ozone chamber where moist heat opens your pores and dilates your capillaries. Ozone oxidises the toxins in your lymph nodes, fat and blood. These toxins leave your body via your sweat glands, thereby preventing the shock of excessive toxins dumping into your liver and colon. Ozone therapy offers a holistic approach to detoxification and rejuvenation, promoting overall well-being and vitality.

Cranio-Sacral therapy provides a gentle, alternative strategy for relief of the effects of physical injuries, psychological stresses, birth trauma and toxicity. This holistic healing practice regulates the flow of cerebrospinal fluid by using therapeutic touch to manipulate the synarthrodial joints of the cranium. A non-invasive, hands-on treatment to evaluate, and improve, the functioning of your cranio-sacral system. The practitioner applies light and gentle palpations to your skull, face, spine and pelvis, thus becoming increasingly attuned to your system and encouraging the release of stored-up traumas and emotions.

Shiatsu is an ancient technique that uses finger and palm pressure to stimulate energy pathways (known as meridians) to improve the flow of energy and promote healing.This is a therapy for those who wish to alleviate symptoms such as depression, anxiety, nausea, stiffness, headaches, arthritis, cramps or pulled muscles.

Reflexology is a gentle, holistic approach to healing and wellness. Based on the interconnectivity of the human body, this treatment concentrates on specific areas of your feet and hands that correspond to specific body parts, glands and organs. Gentle manipulation of these areas promotes healing throughout your body and the application of finger-point pressure, stretching or localised massage of pressure sensors in the feet or hands, can alleviate chronic symptoms.

Our Origins

The Hydro was founded by Cleto Saporetti in 1972 on High Rustenberg farm as a Natural Healing resort based on the ‘Nature Cure’ philosophy, emphasizing self-healing in the right environment.Boris Chaitow implemented a strict regime, including controlled fasting and a mainly raw vegetarian foods diet. Guests received daily massages, hydrotherapy, and osteopathic manipulation, along with exercise and relaxation.

They left feeling lighter, energized and revitalized.

The Hydro attracted guests from South Africa and Europe, who often booked in advance to be with their friends. Returning guests felt like part of the family, showing that some things at The Hydro have never changed.
